Reducing Product Complexity with Smart Bracket Design

Project Overview

I collaborated with product developers at VELUX to design a standardized snap-fit mounting bracket for RG and RLG window blinds.

My Role

  • Led the mechanical analysis, design, and simulation of snap-fit mechanisms

  • Developed multiple bracket prototypes using CAD (Siemens NX)

  • Conducted FEA simulations and physical tests using 3D-printed models

  • Collaborated with VELUX engineers to align the design with real-world constraints

Design Process

  1. Dual guide bar concept – good direction control, but poor tolerance robustness

  1. Single bar approach – simplified, but still mold-complex

  1. Final cantilever design – eliminated internal locking, relied on flexible geometry

  • Tools: Siemens NX, Static Structural Simulation, 3D Printing

  • Skills: Mechanical Design, Snap-Fit Engineering, Simulation (FEA), Prototyping & Testing
