Nerf Gun

Sep - Dec 2023 · University of Southern Denmark

Project Overview

Designed a Nerf gun capable of delivering up to 330 mJ of kinetic energy. This project combined engineering precision, iterative design, and testing to maximize power, accuracy, and efficiency

My Role

  • Led the design and prototyping of all mechanical components

  • Developed and tested multiple nozzle iterations for performance tuning

  • Assembled and refined the launcher using 3D printing and laser-cut parts

  • Participated in user testing and made functional improvements pre-competition

Design Process

  • Full CAD modeling using Siemens NX

  • 3D-printed prototypes for spring chamber and nozzle variations

  • Testing six nozzle designs to find the best airflow efficiency

  • Continuous refinement based on firing range, reload speed, and user feedback

Tools & Skills

  • Tools: Siemens NX, 3D Printing (FDM), Laser Cutting

  • Skills: Mechanical Design, Energy Transfer Optimization, Prototyping, Testing under Constraints
